The House of Fanatics fragrance house surprised and irritated many of us with its ambiguous flacon design. While some people rather innocently identified similarities with luxurious Fabergé eggs, the majority of viewers were clearly reminded of certain sex toys. To what extent the brand is deliberately trying to attract attention and cause offense is unknown to me. It’s possible that House of Fanatics wasn’t really aware of this, although I personally can’t really imagine that. What do you think? In any case, the bottles went viral on social media. Today, I would like to take a closer look at the label’s five fragrances and present them to you here bit by bit.
House of Fanatics – rebellious against the established
The eaux de parfum are called Amber Ghost, Danger Eau, Billion Dollar Oud, Don’t call me Rose and Wondermusk. Now you can argue about how innovative the naming is. Some of the names remind me of well-known fragrances from other brands. The individual creations were created by renowned perfumers: Jordi Fernández, Mylène Alran, Dalia Izem and Gaël Montero are the brains behind the fragrances, which the House of Fanatics brand calls “Scent magicians, provocateurs of emotions”.
In general, I find that the word “provoke” appears more often than average on the House of Fanatics website, which is why I very much suspect that the design of the flacons was not so unconsciously chosen after all. Incidentally, here I have the absolutely innocuous Discovery Set, which bears the name Fanatic Kit and which I unboxed on our Instagram account two weeks ago.
Activate your authenticity. Break the olfactory monotony. House of Fanatics fragrances are not created to please, but to provoke.
Amber Ghost – spooky is different
Let’s focus today on the first of the five fragrances from the House of Fanatics brand, which is based in Barcelona. The label was founded in 2024 by August Navarro Hausschulz, who was born in the Catalan metropolis. After studying international business – including in Germany – he immersed himself in the beauty and perfume business, where he can now look back on a long career.
One of the perfumers mentioned above was responsible for the creation of Amber Ghost. Which one exactly, unfortunately, remains a secret. But I can tell you which fragrance notes the eau de parfum combines: mandarin, saffron, incense, orange blossom, lily of the valley, sandalwood, vanilla, tonka bean, ylang-ylang and ambergris are the ingredients that make up the composition in the golden-brown bottle.
A seductive secret, warm and irresistible, almost impossible not to confess. Intriguing amber reveals an exciting fusion of saffron and benzoin, creating a surreal and idiosyncratic fragrance. An overdose of ylang-ylang and tonka bean seals the enigma and holds an eternal and addictive secret.
If a name with the word “ghost” in it makes you think of something fleeting and barely tangible, Amber Ghost proves you wrong when you test it. The fragrance starts off magnificently, very present and really great. In the opening, the tangy, fruity notes of mandarin meet spicy, dark, medicinal, leathery saffron and a fine, smoky coolness of incense. Lovely orange blossom and velvety sandalwood soon underline the composition, creating a wonderfully comforting and gentle creaminess that is simply delightful. Gradually, the creation glides into the base, which is characterized by fine powdery, sweetish-balsamic and spicy-warm components. Only after a long period of time does the fragrance finally fade away harmoniously.
For me, Amber Ghost is an eau de parfum that matches the color of the bottle like a glove. Golden, warm, atmospheric, elegant and beautiful, this mix of fruity-spicy and balsamic-resinous notes with a floral-creamy and woody finish. The unisex composition has an almost autumnal feel to it, but I would definitely want to wear the fragrance on cooler days in spring and summer too, for any occasion. Amber Ghost starts out powerful and present, but always retains its balance, is composed in a balanced way and impresses with its wonderful airiness and transparency, which means that the creation never feels too heavy. As you can tell, I am a real fan of this eau de parfum, even if I have to admit that the look of the bottle initially made me a little skeptical. 🤭 I can definitely recommend Amber Ghost to you. I will introduce you to the other four fragrances in my next posts. 🤎
