Poka by pernoire – fragrance pleasure in a limited edition

It feels like I’ve only just introduced you to the fragrance Otimo from pernoire (read about it here) when the Swiss label from Nico Mannino and Robin Dünner launches its next olfactory highlight: Poka. Only 1000 flacons of this extrait de parfum are available, which will certainly make the creation even more appealing to many. As if the theme of the fragrance wasn’t already irresistible enough, pernoire’s limited edition creates an additional must-have facet of a special kind for me, which will certainly be even greater after the test.

Poka is all about popcorn and caramel, and so the name is quickly and easily explained: popcorncaramel, the ultimate cinematic delight, is the source of inspiration for this creation, which I cheekily classify as gourmand even before testing it. And these are a perfect fit for the cooler months of the year, when our fragrance-loving hearts thirst for heavier, opulent and sweet-spicy creations with a good portion of dessert character.

At least my heart is already crying out for it. The colder, gloomier and darker it gets, the sweeter, more gourmand and richer my fragrance companions have to be. Do you feel the same way? Or do you have a sweet tooth all year round?

Poka embodies the daring goal of creating the ultimate dessert in the form of a fragrance. This fragrance is a symbol of supreme indulgence and invites you to explore never-before-smelled gourmand territories – a tribute to the sweetest dishes. Poka, named after the main players, is short for popcorn caramel. A metaphor for the pleasure of embarking on an exciting sweet and gourmand adventure.

Of course, I still have to tell you the fragrance notes: Caramel, popcorn, apple, gourmand notes, cinnamon, roasted hazelnut, labdanum (cistus), apricot, vanilla, musk, tonka bean and cedarwood are the ingredients with which perfumer Andreas Wilhelm implements the personal gourmand preferences of the pernoire brand. The eponymous ingredients are right at the forefront, along with many other olfactory-culinary treasures that make this fragrance a real treat.

Poka-licious

The delicious notes of roasted sugar meet the smoky sweetness of labdanum, the finest cinnamon and creamy hazelnuts in the opening of Poka, evoking in the most wonderful way the nuances of a warm popcorn that has just been prepared, surrounded here and there by crunchy caramel. Is that delicious? Definitely!

Gradually, velvety, soft accents are added, which I would particularly attribute to apricot, but also apple, vanilla and musk. These lead the fragrance a little away from the source of inspiration, caramel popcorn, and into new and exciting directions. The smoky, spicy sweetness of the opening is still perceptible, but the creation becomes airier, more transparent and softer overall before it fades out with fine, vanilla tonka bean and clean woods.

Poka is a real treasure for all friends of gourmand creations, for all those who love caramelly popcorn and enjoy fragrances such as What about Pop by THoO or God Bless Cola by Versatile. A beautifully composed and absolutely harmonious extrait de parfum with a medium presence and excellent longevity that I would love to lie down in. I particularly like the fact that the sweetness of the creation is well balanced and never too much, even if the theme would suggest otherwise. A really great fragrance that fits perfectly into the current cooler season. A real treat for the senses! 🍿🤤
