The Spiritum brand is now almost an old acquaintance here on this blog. It was almost exactly a year ago that I first presented the spiritual niche fragrance label to you here. In addition to numerous reviews, you can also find an interview with Jonathan Dufour, the founder of Spiritum, in the article archive. As usual, I will link everything below. But first, I would like to briefly mention the two creations I would like to introduce to you today: Tantrism and 36 Jacob.

Tantrism – Prism Collection
Tantrism and 36 Jacob are part of the new Prism Collection from the Spiritum brand, which is dedicated to specific places and customs. Our first candidate today – Tantrism – is inspired by Tantrism or Tantra. According to Wikipedia, this spiritual teaching, which is by no means just about sexual practices, is dedicated to the following goal: “Becoming one with the absolute and recognizing the highest reality.” There are numerous tantric movements. If you would like to find out more, I recommend specialist literature or – for a quick, uncomplicated overview – Wikipedia. Perfumer Philippe Paparella-Paris combined the ingredients rose, aldehydes, lemon, chocolate, vanilla, cocoa, black pepper, ambergris, cereals, incense, oakmoss, musk, myrrh, ambrette and white musk for the fragrance.
Tantra, which means “interwoven”, emphasizes the feminine. It is a sacred formula that brings devotees into contact with their beloved and is often repeated to bring about ecstasy and union between the devotee and the deity.
Tantrism is wonderfully spicy, soft and gourmand, with a wonderful presence and a balanced, very harmonious opening. Lush spices merge with creamy milk chocolate and ambery-balsamic nuances. Airy rose nuances and tangy hesperides bring freshness and lightness to the composition, preventing it from becoming too heavy and too dense. Gradually, subtle smoky notes emerge in the fragrance. A pinch of pepper adds dry, spicy accents, while powdery, woody and wildly medicinal facets spread throughout the creation, bringing it to a skillful and atmospheric close.
Spiritum Eau de Parfum is ideal for anyone who loves spicy, gourmand, woody-ambery and chocolatey-creamy compositions that are not too heavy and not too sweet. A fragrance that suits my taste perfectly and that I would wear for any occasion without a second thought. Whether in the office, on a date in the evening or to the movies, in everyday life or on special occasions, Tantrism radiates incredibly cozy vibes and is modern, elegant and casual at the same time. Perfect for cooler days, although I actually find the fragrance far too beautiful to limit it to fall and winter. An absolute recommendation from me! 🖤
36 Jacob – In the heart of Paris
Our second candidate today is dedicated to an address in Paris. A completely new topic for Spiritum, as the brand is otherwise dedicated to the spiritual. But there is something special behind this address. It is the home of the niche fragrance label’s first boutique, located in the chic Saint-Germain-des-Prés district, not far from the Seine. Perfumer Philippe Paparella-Paris translated the store’s special charm into olfactory terms. The ingredients incense, basil, saffron, aldehydes, rose, orange, pink pepper, black pepper, cypress, labdanum (cistus), cedarwood, red fruits, sage, cinnamon, clove, iris, orange blossom, sandalwood, patchouli, vanilla, vetiver, nagarmotha, fir balsam, leather, eaglewood (oud) and tonka bean suggest a sumptuous arrangement. I am curious to see whether this proves to be the case in the test.
36 Jacob is a very different creation to the Tantrism we have just tested. The opening of the eau de parfum is much darker, drier, spicier and more tart. Crackling, leathery, medicinal-smoky and resinous-coniferous nuances lend the composition a profound, present and intense character right from the start, which is powerful, striking and extraordinary. Spiritum always remains true to itself and reveals a fragrance that plays with meditative and contemplative moments. Greenish-aromatic notes provide exciting accents in the background as the fragrance progresses, while I also gradually notice sweetish-creamy, seductively velvety facets that have a soothing effect.
36 Jacob is very complex, a densely woven carpet of fragrances, tightly woven, dazzling. At the same time, the creation is so calm and serene that you want to fall into it and enjoy it. Tart, dark and a little rough at first, the composition gradually becomes softer, sweeter and reveals cozy, comfortable nuances. I would also wear this eau de parfum on cooler days and would probably avoid wearing it in the office. Instead, I find the evening, leisure time or a relaxed afternoon on the sofa more suitable for 36 Jacob, which would be too present and powerful for the office. But here too, of course, anything goes. ☺️
