Don’t worry, I’m fine and the headline is absolutely coherent as it is. If you have any doubts about the accuracy of this statement and/or my state of mind, please refer to my last post BORNTOSTANDOUT x Fugazzi – Fragrance Diary on Tour, which explained that the two brands BORNTOSTANDOUT and Fugazzi wanted to create precisely this confusion with their collaboration, in which not one but two fragrances were launched bearing the name of the other label. And so today’s protagonists are BORNTOSTANDOUT by Fugazzi and Fugazzi by BORNTOSTANDOUT.
I will also be presenting an unboxing on our Instagram account in the next few days, as the fragrance BORNTOSTANDOUT by Fugazzi was kindly included in the goodie bag that I was allowed to take away from the event. And I would like to start with this creation and then devote myself to the fragrance Fugazzi by BORNTOSTANDOUT.
BORNTOSTANDOUT from Fugazzi
Bergamot, geranium, rose, pepper, woods, ambergris, cedarwood, tobacco and leather are the ingredients of this first creation BORNTOSTANDOUT by Fugazzi, created by perfumer Valérie Garnuch-Mentzel. You will remember that the collaboration between the two brands was promoted as a kind of love story, a torrid affair that is romantic and wicked, passionate and intimate.
So it is only natural that the flower of love par excellence, the rose, is part of this composition. It is accompanied by acigala wood, which seems to me to be increasingly used in fragrances of late. Extracted by Givaudan from patchouli, the fragrance smells woody, a little floral and also reveals oud-like facets. If you’re worried that we’re dealing with another oud rose here … that’s not the case, I can reveal that much. 😉
In the opening of BORNTOSTANDOUT, an airy, fragrant rose meets a fine, fresh citrus tartness, soon followed by darker, earthy-creamy nuances. Transparent and elusive, the eau de parfum has clear molecular-synthetic facets. I recall that Bram Niessink, the founder of Fugazzi, told us at the event that this is exactly what he likes about fragrances, when they have synthetic components. Well, I definitely find this in BORNTOSTANDOUT. The rose is and remains at the center of the composition. Its olfactory companions change over the course of the fragrance. Initially rather tart and fresh, then earthy and woody. Gradually, creamy, powdery notes emerge with a certain cleanliness and honeyed accents. Finally, cedar wood and tobacco round off the creation, accompanied by light and supple leather.
BORNTOSTANDOUT is a rose fragrance that is both seductive and lascivious. Profound and rather dark. Not a carefree, girlish blossom, but an adult, serious and also a little melancholy. The woody, earthy and creamy notes flow around the lovely, lucid rose, giving it stability and grounding. The blossom appears mysterious, as if it should always remain a little enigmatic, knowing that this only makes it even more appealing. Perfect for lovers of elegant, fresh, woody rose fragrances that can be worn for any occasion and in any season.
Fugazzi from BORNTOSTANDOUT
Let’s move on to the second fragrance in the BORNTOSTANDOUT x Fugazzi collaboration, which is confusingly called Fugazzi but was launched by the BORNTOSTANDOUT label. This creation comes from perfumer Quentin Bisch and combines the ingredients milk, grapefruit, incense, mandarin, cumin, suede, vetiver, guaiac wood, saffron, vanilla, styrax resin, ambroxan, moss and musk. It is said to be “a harmonious blend of the dirty, gourmand facets of BORNTOSTANDOUT and the airy, breezy textures of Fugazzi”.
Anyone who has been reading the fragrance diary here regularly for a while will have guessed that Fugazzi is right up my street. Right from the start, the extrait de parfum is an intense, expressive blend of creamy, milky, buttery iris, which merges with the finest, light suede to create a beautiful leather iris. Am I in heaven? I think so! The citrus fruits provide a subtle freshness that is nuanced by delicate spices. Subtly smoky, cool incense drifts past on the horizon, while the powdery violet notes of guaiac wood and earthy, creamy vetiver slowly and quietly flow into the harmonious, incredibly harmonious blend of suede and iris. The creation also remains true to itself in the finish. Soft, powdery-creamy and fluffy notes play around the composition and allow it to fade away beautifully.
Fugazzi by BORNTOSTANDOUT is a fragrance to my taste. Perfect for anyone who loves creamy, powdery, soft, calm, almost meditative creations with supple, light suede and earthy, soft iris. Very elegant, multi-faceted, modern, deep and complex, yet always characterized by a certain transparency and freshness, Fugazzi by BORNTOSTANDOUT is an absolute highlight for me. Unisex, suitable for everyday and office wear and incredibly seductive. A fragrance that immediately goes on my must-have list. ❤️
