What on earth could La Foncedalle mean? My research has revealed that it is the French word for a special craving. This is also known here and leads to binge-eating. Anyone who likes to smoke weed, which is now completely legal, is probably familiar with it. After the high or during it, you may experience an immense munchies. And that’s exactly what this is all about. Bon appétit!
The fragrance house Versatile Paris has taken on this unusual theme and turned it into a fragrance. Yes, welcome to the niche. As a reminder:
Versatile is a fragrance brand founded in October 2021 by Coralie Frébourg. Versatile was born out of the will to be bold on its own terms. It breaks with the institutional codes of luxury perfumery: no to standardized fragrances and advertising, no to elitist prices, no to gender segregation. Versatile wants to focus on olfactory memories that we all know and present an alternative to the existing offerings. People and respect for the earth are at the heart of its development.
It is precisely this courage that can be found here. La Foncedalle also presents itself as a highly concentrated perfume roll-on with an incredible 35% fragrance oil concentration. Incidentally, it is alcohol-free with an oily consistency. In my opinion, a roll-on has numerous advantages over a classic spray head. The fragrance can be precisely placed and dosed, and there is hardly any wastage that evaporates somewhere into nirvana.
A stoned evening with Versatile
An evening like this will be familiar to some of you. Now you can admit it. You sit together, smoke, drink a cold beer and after a short time the eponymous hunger sets in. But what does Versatile serve up to our odour-hungry nose?
There is buttery, crispy (vegan) chicken. No joke! Not even in a figurative or metaphorical sense. The first hint is chicken spice, sage, then it becomes more buttery, sweet and almost popcorny. After the surprising spice at the beginning, however, the whole thing becomes a perfume. No roasted smell or anything like that. Pleasant, fresh, grassy, spicy, green and without a hearty marijuana note. Some will be disappointed, others relieved. Seriously, everything turns out differently than expected.
We have translated the notes into cannabis, aromatic notes, barley, sage, popcorn and musk.
Our perfumers[Amélie Bourgeois and Margaux Le Paih-Guérin, note by Harmen] have created a multifaceted and unique neo-fougère that for the first time presents an original triptych in a fragrance: Grass, beer and roasted (vegan) chicken. A salty, fresh and warm combination that is sensual, appetizing and intoxicating.
Do I smell like a marijuana chicken with La Foncedalle?
Unfortunately no, or fortunately no. It would have been a bit silly to recreate the whole evening olfactorily one-to-one. And who wants to smell like fried food, a joint or beer? La Foncedalle is a great spicy, green fragrance with a slight gourmand touch and a buttery finish.
I am thrilled and have my sample ready for the next application. Because the fragrance is absolutely wearable and I promise you that it will not evoke any undesirable associations in your counterpart. On the contrary, La Foncedalle may even awaken an insatiable hunger in your coveted fellow human beings, wink, wink. I look forward to hearing about your experiences!
