Part IV in Essential Par fums’ round-up of fragrances brings us to the creations Fig Infusion and Patchouli Mania, created by perfumers Nathalie Lorson and Fabrice Pellegrin. As I have already described in my last three posts On a mission – The collection by Essential Parfums, Mon Vetiver and Orange X Santal by Essential Parfums and Divine Vanille and The Musc by Essential Parfums – Divine Minimalism, the French brand from founder Géraldine Archambauldt wants to give the creative minds behind the eaux de parfum a special place. This is why they are not only openly named, which is not the case with all fragrance houses, but they are also given the opportunity to explain their thoughts on the fragrance and the development process. A very nice, exciting and fascinating insight that Essential Parfums gives us here.
I would also like to say a few words about sustainability. Because this is also very important for the label. In addition to environmentally friendly packaging made from FSC-certified paper, the olfactory raw materials, the alcohol used (made from beet) and the glass used for the bottles are as sustainable as possible. I find it exciting that there are refills for the eau de parfums, which saves even more resources.
Fig Infusion – Nathalie Lorson
The “light of a sunny day in the south of France” inspired perfumer Nathalie Lorson to create Fig Infusion. As a big fan of fig fragrances, I am once again looking forward to this creation, which also contains another ingredient that I particularly like: black tea. The name ingredient infusion already gives you an idea. It could therefore be a fig tea creation with a floral-citrus undertone, which could once again be to my taste. The ingredients of Fig Infusion are fig, clementine, mandarin, black tea, freesia, orange blossom, sandalwood, benzoin resin and Virginia cedarwood.
“I imagined a luminous scent full of joy and pleasure. The scent reminiscent of a dreamy afternoon in an orchard, cozy under fig trees.”
Sweet and juicy figs open the composition of Essential Parfums, subtly greenish in appearance and accompanied by a fine, citrusy tartness that makes the fragrance so sunny, summery and enchanting right from the start. Am I enthusiastic? You bet! Orange blossom and freesia bring creamy, aquatic floral nuances to the creation and even if I can’t explicitly sniff out the black tea, I can definitely understand the association of an infusion, a tea infusion. As the fragrance progresses, sweet, warm and velvety-soft woods and the deliciously vanilla notes of benzoin resin are added, which flow incredibly harmoniously into the composition and bring the fragrance to a wonderful close.
With Fig Infusion, the seventh eau de parfum from Essential Parfums also manages to win my heart. The eau de parfum is simply wonderful. Sunny, summery, dreamy and also a little romantic, the creation is perfect for all those who love creamy, not too green fig scents, who prefer fruity-sweet tea compositions with a calm, relaxed feel-good mood. I highly recommend trying it, and not just for fig lovers. It’s worth it! 💜
Patchouli Mania – Fabrice Pellegrin
With Patchouli Mania, we are now entering a completely different olfactory realm. Patchouli is the protagonist of this creation, which was created by Fabrice Pellegrin. The French perfumer combines it with coriander seeds, davana, hazelnut, cocoa, tea and vetiver, because he wanted to create a fragrance that carries the following message: “I imagined a sensual patchouli that is equally addictive, profound and mysterious. The composition strikes a balance between the richness of patchouli and the powdery sweetness of cocoa.”
Beginning with the earthy-woody sweetness of patchouli, which is moist, rather dark and striking, the creation soon becomes spicier, softer and liqueur-like. Tart chocolate notes flow into the composition, which go perfectly with the greenish-woody patchouli and the rooty-creamy vetiver, which gradually spreads more and more throughout the fragrance. The initially clearly perceptible sweet nuances gradually recede into the background, giving way to a tart, woody patchouli that evokes a very special, mysterious mood.
Patchouli fans are likely to be very interested in this creation, as the special wood is definitely given a leading role in Patchouli Mania. Skilfully combined with fragrance notes such as vetiver and coriander seed, which wonderfully highlight and emphasize the facets of the namesake. In my eyes, it has a rather masculine feel, but it is a seasonal and occasional all-rounder through and through. 💚
