Liquid Love, A Balm of Calm and Eau de Audacity by Penhaligon’s [+ giveaway]

The series of new fragrances in the Potions & Remedies Collection from Penhaligon’s continues with the scents Liquid Love, A Balm of Calm and Eau de Audacity. Just yesterday, in my article Potions & Remedies – The new collection from Penhaligon’s, I introduced you to the two creations Vra Vra Vroom and A Kiss of Bliss, both of which more than thrilled me.

Penhaligon's - Potions & Remedies - Liquid Love

Liquid Love – Elixir of love

Liquid Love could be considered a kind of love potion, because – as we learned in my last article – the Potions & Remedies Collection is all about remedies and potions that are supposed to have a certain effect on the wearer. At least that’s what the press release and labels promise. Of course, all of this should be taken with a grain of salt and not as a health claim.

Apparently, Liquid Love is designed to ignite passion. To describe the fragrance as a kind of olfactory aphrodisiac would probably be a bit over the top, but let’s be surprised. The ingredients are ginger, pink pepper, turmeric, rose, hazelnut, chili pepper, cashmeran, sandalwood and musk, which could suggest a spicy, floral and comforting fragrance.

A passionate eau de parfum that makes hearts beat faster. Spicy notes of pink pepper, ginger and turmeric unite in a fiery embrace with chili and musk. Be warned: one spritz too many can make you faint.

Fresh nuances open Liquid Love, from which I sniff out a fruity-bright rose as well as the gentle spiciness of pepper and the aromatic-tart spiciness of turmeric. The ginger also brings citrusy-spicy facets into play. However, Penhaligon’s composition is rather quiet overall, moving across the olfactory stage on gentle soles. I can definitely detect the peppers. The delicately sour and subtly pungent bell pepper nuances lend the creation tension and that certain something, while the lucid notes of a freshly blossoming rose with a subtle sweetness run through the fragrance like a red thread. The base notes provide cozy moments. Cashmeran and musk provide cotton-soft, crystalline, feel-good accents, into which velvety, warm sandalwood flows.

Liquid Love is the perfect fragrance for anyone who loves creations with a certain spiciness. We remember Scoville by Obvious Parfums, which also plays with the notes of chili. Penhaligon’s Eau de Parfum also picks up on this special ingredient – albeit in a much less pronounced form – and combines it with delicate floral, soft and radiant facets. A calm, elegant and transparent mix around a sharp, fresh rose that I really like. Suitable for everyday wear and the office plus always wearable throughout the seasons. ❤️

A Balm of Calm – Potions & Remedies

After the pungent scent of passion, we now turn our attention to A Balm of Calm, which is intended to restore peace to our souls. The eau de parfum from the British niche fragrance brand is billed as a “lullaby of lavender” and “Penhaligon’s blend for calming”. The fragrance notes sound quite tempting to me: lavender, bergamot, geranium, iris, jasmine, sandalwood and rum could undo the arduous work of the two cups of coffee I have already consumed today to combat the drowsiness after the alarm clock roused me from my sweetest dreams at dawn.

A hint of bergamot freshness meets a wonderfully herbaceous lavender tartness in the opening of A Balm of Calm, which is bedded on wonderfully creamy nuances right from the start. Iris, jasmine and geranium evoke the supple and gentle coolness of silk, which spontaneously reminds me of the finest bed linen, on which one is only too happy to settle down to rest. The minty freshness of geranium sets wonderful accents here, providing lightness and transparency. Gradually, the boozy nuances of the rum become apparent, subtly peaty and liqueur-like, leading the way in a very subtle way to the base, where lavender and sandalwood with warm, woody and herbaceous tart notes are already waiting for us.

A Balm of Calm is very elegant and stylish. An English gentleman in the form of a unisex fragrance that is extremely seductive for all those who love creamy, cozy and calm compositions with a lavender finish. This Penhaligon’s creation can also be worn at any time of year and on any occasion and is characterized by a medium presence and good longevity. A must-try not only for lavender fans and lovers of fougère creations!

Eau de Audacity – Water of audacity

After the passion comes the reassurance and now it’s on to the conclusion of this Potions & Remedies Collection from Penhaligon’s with brash boldness. It’s a proud ride that we’re taking today in this review and I’m really looking forward to this final fragrance in dark green, which is advertised by the British brand as follows: “A bottle of audacity to cast off the shackles of shyness.” Will it be a dare to test this Eau de Audacity? The ingredients actually sound quite tame: black pepper, elemi resin, orange blossom, incense, rose, saffron, vanilla, leather and ambergris.

In the opening of Eau de Audacity, dry, black pepper combines with smoky, cool incense and medicinal, leathery saffron. They are soon joined by lovely, almost gourmand-sweet nuances, which I would attribute to liqueur-like (I perceive clear notes of amaretto) vanilla, honey-sweet rose and creamy orange blossom. While I had expected a real go-getter fragrance here, the eau de parfum surprises me with its transparency and airiness. Almost shy and reserved, the creation is a quiet, calm and subtle representative of its genre. The ambergris underlines the leathery aspects of the composition with its very own warm, balsamic notes.

Less bold and daring than expected, but all the more cozy, gentle and wonderfully boozy-vanilla. Eau de Audacity is a contemplative mix of incense, fine spices, creamy flowers and supple leather that should appeal to anyone who prefers spicy, leathery and smooth, sweet creations. This fragrance is also an all-rounder that I would not assign to a particular occasion or season. Great!
