Nectar Olfactif – The love for bees

I showed you the packaging and a bottle of Nectar Olfactif on Instagram a few weeks ago and I was really impressed by the sophistication and high quality of the Secret du Nil fragrance. The sturdy and luxuriously appointed outer packaging is a beautiful dark green, while the bottle inside is a radiant yellow. This color contrast and the quality of the material make a really great impression and I’m very excited to see to what extent the brand’s four creations can inspire me.

In focus: Nectar Olfactif

Nectar Olfactif was founded by David Perrin, who had worked in the perfume business for many years before realizing his dream of creating his own brand. Perrin loves fragrances, especially niche fragrances, and also collects them. Another passion of his is traveling to different countries and cultures, but what particularly fascinates and captivates him are bees.

Their complex organization and the efficient division of labour in the beehive serve as a source of inspiration for him. He draws a parallel between the way bees collect nectar and carry it to their hives and the process of selecting and combining raw materials to create unique fragrances.

And so Nectar Olfactif, which can be translated as “fragrant nectar”, uses only the finest raw materials for its creations, which are realized by Robertet perfumers Serge de Oliveira, Amandine Galliano and Sidonie Lancesseur. The fragrance manufacturer Robertet is renowned for its large selection of natural raw materials, which were also of particular importance to David Perrin for the compositions of Nectar Olfactif.

Nectar Olfactif - Secret du Nil

Nectar Olfactif’s great love for bees

The love for bees, the fascinating way they form colonies, their cooperation and the high quality of their golden honey are an essential part of Nectar Olfactif’s brand DNA. Inspired by a bee enclosed in amber, which was found in Myanmar and is thought to be 100 million years old, the packaging and bottle feature a stylized bee surrounded by leaves and a flower in a beautiful gold-coloured medal. The color of the bottle, which is a radiant and intense honey color, is another detail related to the industrious hymenoptera. The intense green color chosen for the packaging is also intended to express the label’s special connection to nature and flora.

Secret du Nil – Secret of the Nile

In this and the next post, I would like to introduce you to the four extraits de parfum from the Nectar Olfactif brand, starting with Secret du Nil. As the name suggests, it revolves around the Nile, or more precisely, its secrets. The African river, which competes with the South American Amazon for the title of “longest river on earth”, is “known as the cradle of civilizations and forms the lifeline for a country rich in fruit trees and flower fields.” The origin of the Nile is said to be unfathomable and mysterious to this day, which is why it has an aura that is both shrouded in mystery and fascinating. Fascination is the keyword that brings us to the bee, which can of course also exert a certain inspirational influence here:

In ancient Egyptian culture, the bee symbolized royal power and was mythologically born from the tears of the sun god Re. Their honey was considered a sacred drink for newlyweds, from which the term honeymoon is derived. Honey was also widely used in medical writings and embalming rituals.

Nectar Olfactif - Secret du Nil

Perfumer Sidonie Lancesseur was responsible for the creative realization of Secret du Nil and used the ingredients bergamot, bitter orange, almond, orange, neroli, roasted almond, honey, vanilla, sugar, cedarwood and musk for the composition.

Fragrant soul warmer

At first, I perceive the tart and tangy nuances of citrus fruits, which give the opening of Secret du Nil a certain freshness that blends wonderfully with the enveloping sweetness of the fragrance, which is perceptible from the beginning and gives it lightness and transparency. Yes, the extrait de parfum is really surprisingly airy, with wonderfully powdery, crystalline facets that almost seem to shimmer right from the start.

The roasted almonds provide a milky creaminess and also have gourmand, delicious moments into which the golden sweetness of the honey flows. Orange accents flash through the creation, sometimes soft and floral – Neroli, ick hör Dir trapsen -, sometimes juicy and fruity, which fit perfectly into the overall picture of this incredibly gentle and harmonious composition. Powdery, woody, clean cedar musk and the finest vanilla sugar round off Secret du Nil in an enchanting way.

Nectar Olfactif - Secret du Nil

Even though this creation is an extrait de parfum, Secret du Nil is not an exuberant and opulent fragrance that is in any way heavy or oppressive. The subject matter, the intensity and the ingredients could certainly allow this conclusion. No, the composition of Nectar Olfactif is an extraordinarily balanced, very harmonious and rather quiet mix of powdery honey sweetness, fruity-floral (bitter) orange nuances and gourmand almond cream that is really fun. With excellent longevity – the extrait is noticeable here – and a medium presence, Secret du Nil can be worn at any time of year and on any occasion. Perfect for all those who love transparent, lovely and powdery-creamy creations. A delicious scent for all honey lovers. 🍯🐝
